Contact me to schedule a time to screen your child to see if they are ready to start with the Barton system, it will take approximately 30 minutes. The screening has 3 parts. The first part is to see if they can break apart a spoken sentence into individual words. The second part is to check if they can separate spoken words into syllables. And in the last part I will find out if they can accurately repeat 3 sounds and if they can tell if those sounds are the same or different.
If they have difficulty with the first 2 parts, they can start Barton but I will need to spend part of our lessons developing those skills. If they have problems with the 3rd part, they are not yet ready to start using Barton or any other Orton-Gillingham-based system. They will need to first improve the skills in this section.
Most kids will be able to pass the screening and can then get started with tutoring right away!
Most of my current availability online is Mon – Sat mornings and in person, I can take more students in December. If those times don’t work for you, let me know and we can probably work something out!
