Or you can go ahead and schedule a time for me to screen your child to see if they are ready to start with the Barton system, it will take approximately 30 minutes but I leave 50 minutes for the appointment time to review the results or answer any questions you have.
The screening has 3 parts. The first part is to see if they can break apart a spoken sentence into individual words. The second part is to check if they can separate spoken words into syllables. And in the last part I will find out if they can accurately repeat 3 sounds and if they can tell if those sounds are the same or different.
If they have difficulty with the first 2 parts, they can start Barton but I will need to spend part of our sessions developing those skills. If they have problems with the 3rd part, they are not yet ready to start using Barton or any other Orton-Gillingham-based system. They will need to first go through a program called Foundations in Sounds.
Most kids will be able to pass the screening and can then get started with tutoring right away! You can also sign up for this on Calendly.
