Tutoring in most Orton-Gillingham programs are best done in individual, 1 on 1 tutoring sessions.
Kids will need at least 2 hours a week of tutoring to make progress, but 3 hours a week is best. Ideally, on non-consecutive days and never for more than 1 hour at a time.
I’m currently tutoring online and in person. Even if you live nearby, online tutoring will save you time by not having to drive here so often.
I’ll start with teaching your child the 7 essential phonemic awareness skills and then progress through the program, gradually increasing their reading and spelling ability.

On Level 2 we will work on consonants and short vowels. Level 3 and above will teach different types of syllables, vowel teams, prefixes and suffixes and much much more. Level 3 and above will take approximately 3 – 5 months to complete. The first 2 Levels are faster, but how quickly we can finish them depends upon your child and their individual challenges.
You won’t see major improvement in scores on standardized reading tests until they finish Level 3. But before finishing Level 3 your child’s confidence with reading should be greatly improved. And by the end of level 3 they should be able to read somewhere between 2nd and 5th grade level.
